Closer.
And so it is
just like you said it would be
life goes easy on me
most of the time...
I just saw Closer. A honest movie, and a sad one too.
There is the scene when Dan finally finds out about Alice's fake name in Postman's Park. And the first scene paralleling the closing one, the people in the street and Damien Rice's The Blower's Daughter capturing everything the movie is about in its lyrics. And all this little long, true moments in between...
There is no need for special effects or surprising twists; the movie reflects this picture of what happens, in different versions, everywhere and every day: egoism, infidelity, unsteadiness, the lies to ourselves and to others. (What 'it' is like: No hope that 'it' might change for better or worse? Believe and pretend, leave and be left, start from the beginning with the old optimism to proudly walk towards the same pessimistic ending again?)
Definitely worth seeing (if you like this kind of cinematic truth and de-romantization). And Mike Nichols, of course, simply makes good movies.
